Lenz Glossary of Terms
Below is a list of many of the most common terms we use for our products and services. We want all of our customers to feel comfortable with the terms we use, so you can make the best decisions with all of your earth material projects. 1 1/2” Drain Rock
Description- Round rock 1 1/2 inch in diameter on at least one side.
Application- Drainage, pipe bedding/backfill, decorative areas.
7/8 Drain Rock
Description- Round rock 7/8 inch in diameter on at least one side.
Application- Drainage, pipe bedding/backfill, decorative areas.
Alder Sawdust
Description- Fine bits of alder
Application- Animal bedding, soil amendment.
Beauty Bark (Medium)
Description- Coarse Ground Fir and Hemlock
Application- Decorative areas, landscaping.
Beauty Bark (Fine)
Description- Fine Ground Fir and Hemlock.
Application- Decorative areas, landscaping.
Black Bark Mulch
Description- Fine screened aged Fir and Hemlock.
Application- Decorative areas, landscaping.
Cedar Chips
Description- Flat chunks of cedar roughly 2 inches across.
Application- Playground areas, decorative.
Coarse Washed Sand
Description- clean slightly larger than regular “sand.”
Application- Drainage, backfill, pipe bedding.
Cobbles
Description- Round rock 2 to 10 inches in diameter.
Application- Decorative areas.
Concrete Mix
Description- Sand and 7/8 Drain Rock mixed.
Application- Material to mix with concrete for patios or other concrete settings.
Fill Dirt
Description- Unscreened dirt containing rocks and sticks. Varies with availability, sometimes containing clay
Application- As labeled. Not suggested as a base material for a structure, or road.
Hog Fuel
Description- A variety of ground brush and stumps. Very coarse, with stringy pieces up to 8 inches long.
Application- Temporary access through wet areas and erosion control.
Mortar Sand
Description- Very fine sand
Application- Locking pavers, drainage, great material for kids sand box.
Pea Gravel
Description- Pea sized round rock.
Application- Drainage, pipe bedding/backfill, decorative areas.
Perc Dirt
Description- Unscreened sandy loam containing some rocks and sticks
Application- Drainfield
Pit-Run
Description- Unscreened sand and rock that drains.
Application- Road, Structure base, backfill.
Sand
Description- Typical fill sand 1/8 inch and finer.
Application- Drainage, backfill, pipe bedding.
Topsoil (Lenz Blend)
Description- A prioritized mixture of native soil, compost (steer and chicken manure), sand, and sawdust. We are proud to offer our own unique Lenz Blend topsoil to our customers.
Application- Lawn installation, and landscaping material.

Description- Broken quarry rock 5/8 inch with fines.

Application- Driveways and pathways

2 1/2 Minus (Crushed Rock)
Application- Base for driveway, wet area apps.
Description- Broken quarry rock 2 1/2 inch with fines
Ballast (Crushed Rock)
Application- Base for driveway, wet area apps., decorative areas.
Description- Broken quarry rock 2 1/2 inch without fines.
2X4 (Crushed Rock)
Application- Decorative areas, base for driveway, construction entrances.
Description- Broken quarry rock 2 to 4 inches.
4X8 (Crushed Rock)
Application- Decorative areas, construction entrances, wet area apps.
Description- Broken quarry rock 4 to 8 inches.
1 Man Rock
Application- Rock wall, and other decorative uses.
Description- Fractured or natural stone 12" to 18". Some of the rocks can be too heavy to move by hand.
2 Man Rock
Application- Rock wall, and other decorative uses.
Description- Fractured or natural stone 18" to 28". Heavy equipment is advised when installing, most all rocks are too heavy to move by hand.
3 Man Rock
Application- Rock wall, and other decorative uses.
Description- Fractured or natural stone 38" to 36".
4 Man Rock
Application- Rock wall, and other decorative uses.
Description- Fractured or natural stone 36" to 48".
5 Man Rock
Application- Rock wall and other decorative uses.
Description- Fractured or natural stone 48" to 54".
6 Man Rock
Application- Rock wall and other decorative uses.
Description- Fractured or natural stone 54" to 60"
4 Inch Minus Recycled Concrete
Application- Base material.
Description- Concrete crushed to 4 inch with fines (contains small amounts of metal).
1 1/4 Recycled Asphalt
Application- Base material
Description- Asphalt crushed to 1 1/4 inch with fines.
Lenz Recycling Site
(Recycling Site materials are to be separated prior to dumping)
Yard Waste
Description- Clean Green (Grass clippings, Leaves, Branches, Etc.)
Clean Brush
Description- Brush or stumps without dirt.
Dirty Brush
Description- Brush or stumps with dirt. (Dump fee is higher than Clean Brush).
Dirt
Description- Dirt with rocks or clay. Absolutely no contaminated soil.
Asphalt
Description- Clean asphalt (no dirt, sticks, etc.).
Concrete
Description- Clean concrete (no dirt, sticks, rebar, etc.).
Concrete w/rebar
Description- Concrete with rebar (no dirt, sticks, etc.).
